Hi,

I just enabled my Palm Pre 2 for developer mode, but I cannot connect with novaterm, it says: "unable to find device". I've selected "charge only" on USB connection.

I run a Debian GNU/Linux Squeeze 64bit.

Many thanks in advance

Have you installed the SDK from early access and gotten the updated novacom drivers? If not, mail pdc@palm.com to get early access.

Thank you for you quick reply!

I installed SDK rel 1.4.5 and novacom rel 1.0.56. I'll follow your suggestion and enroll to the early access program to get the latest sw.

Thanks again

hi

does it solve the problem ? I have exactly the same issue on my Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bit)

rafal@ubuntu:/$ uname -r
2.6.32-26-generic
rafal@ubuntu:/$ uname -m
x86_64
rafal@ubuntu:/$

I try to connect to my Palm Pre 2 which I've got two days ago.

Here what I tried (after enabling debugging mode, connecting device to USB, selecting 'charge only').

1. checked if device was detected
lsusb
Bus 007 Device 002: ID 1532:001c Razer USA, Ltd
Bus 007 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 006 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 032: ID 0830:8042 Palm, Inc.
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

everything ok

2. tried to check connection
novacom
unable to find device

? WHY?

3. tried to start novacomd
/opt/Palm/novacom/novacomd start
[2010/12/21 15:27:24] novacomd version novacomd-79 starting...
[2010/12/21 15:27:24] sending options to existing novacomd process

4. again I tried with novacom
novacom
unable to find device

I have installed on my Ubuntu:
palm-sdk_1.4.5-svn307799-sdk1457-pho465_i386.deb
palm-novacom_1.0.56_amd64.deb

for the second package I do not understand why here:
http://developer.palm.com/index.php?opt ... &Itemid=55
it is said I should install it with command:
Code:
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture palm-novacom_1.0.56_amd64.deb

I though this is amd64 version and force-architecture is not required in this case. Am I wrong ? It should be only required for 'palm-sdk_1.4.5-svn307799-sdk1457-pho465_i386.deb'. Could anybody explain this to me ?

I have installed 'ia32-libs' (as suggested here: http://www.ubucentrum.net/2010/07/uruch ... k-145.html)

regards
Rafal

Hi

apart of the unnecessary (in my opinion) option '--force-architecture' for amd64.deb package I have another remark to the information provided here:
http://developer.palm.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&layout=page&id=1585&Itemid=55

it says novacom should be stoped/started as follows:
sudo stop palm-novacom
sudo start palm-novacom

this does not work. Here correct commands:
Code:
rafal@ubuntu:/$ sudo stop palm-novacomd
palm-novacomd stop/waiting
rafal@ubuntu:/$ sudo start palm-novacomd
palm-novacomd start/running, process 2915
rafal@ubuntu:/$

it I try to execute commands provided on mention page it returns error
Code:
rafal@ubuntu:/$ sudo stop palm-novacom
stop: Unknown job: palm-novacom

for the problem with connection to the device. Has anybody an Idea what could be wrong and why I cannot connect to my 'Palm Pre 2' ?
I would like to test if this will work on openSUSE but I do not see SDK is available for this distro.

regards
Rafal

PS. When I tried to contact Palm Support using a chat it tries to install 'Support-LogMeInRescue.exe' . This means I cannot use this chat on any Linux or Mac though on palm support page I see 'Palm Chat - free, quick and simple' . Free ? For whom ? Maybe people using Windows. There is plenty of other solutions which are platform independent, so I am disappointed that Palm Support does not go for it.

Hi,

I managed to access the phone using the latest novacom drivers rel. 1.0.64. Release 1.0.56 doesn't work with Palm Pre 2. I got the download link in the restricted area of the forum after being enrolled in the early access program.

Just install that package and you're be able to connect. In order to start the daemon type:

Code:
# /opt/Palm/novacom/novacomd

in a root shell. I've added it to my /etc/rc.local script because I do not run Ubuntu and start/stop are specific to that distribution.

Regards

Thanks! I will ask for access to this early program.
Regarding deamon I already found the place (/opt/Palm/novacom) with it, but wanted to inform other users that description on palm page is not 100% correct.
